Discount promotion calculator

Example figures are pre-filled. Replace them with your own estimates and use the same period for both scenarios.

Your assumptions

Tax-exclusive revenue for one representative order. Shipping income is excluded.

One total for product, packaging, delivery, advertising and payment processing fees per order. Use an average dollar amount.

Orders you would expect without a promotion, over your chosen campaign period.

Percentage reduction applied to the normal selling price.

Your estimate, not a demand forecast. Negative values mean fewer orders.

Profit here means sales minus your entered order costs, before overheads and tax. One-off promotion costs are not included.

Understand the numbers

1. Enter normal trading

Use one representative basket and the orders you would normally receive during the campaign period.

2. Test your discount

Choose a discount and estimate the change in order volume. Adjust either figure to test different outcomes.

3. Compare profit

More revenue does not necessarily mean more profit. Compare the forecast with the orders required to match normal trading.

Assumptions and calculation detail

All amounts use consistent tax-exclusive figures in AUD and one representative order. Cost per order includes payment fees and stays the same in both scenarios. Percentage-based fees may fall when you discount; this simple calculator does not adjust them separately. Shipping income, returns, refunds, overheads, tax and one-off campaign costs are excluded. Results estimate profit before overheads and tax, not net business profit. The expected order increase is your assumption, not a prediction.

Discounted price = normal price × (1 − discount).

Profit per order = selling price − cost per order.

Total profit = profit per order × orders. Required orders = normal total profit ÷ discounted profit per order, rounded up.
